Eddie Vedder Solo Tour

Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder strikes out on the solo road beginning mid June on the East Coast.

Vedder’s tour is in support of his new solo album, Ukulele Songs, scheduled to be released May 31 in North America through Pearl Jam’s Monkeywrench Records. The disc has Vedder taking the title to heart by playing original songs and covers on ukulele. The first single from the album, “Longing To Belong,” was just released digitally.

Ukulele Songs won’t be the only Vedder release landing in stores at the end of May. “Water On The Road,” a live-concert DVD featuring two stops on Vedder’s 2008 solo tour, also comes out May 31.

Special guest Glen Hansard of The Swell Season and The Frames fame will join Vedder on the road.

Peter Gabriel Announces Summer Tour

Following the success of last year's sell out concerts Peter Gabriel returns to the USA for an 11 date tour with the New Blood orchestra. On the last outing Gabriel redrew the works of Lou Reed, David Bowie, Radiohead....this time out he applies the orchestral makeover to his own back catalogue. The stunning musical backdrop leaves Gabriel's vocals centre-stage and bare, stripped of the usual rock'n'roll clothing, no loud guitars or booming drums to hide behind.

Raw and soul-baring yet passionate and often joyous, Gabriel's classic songs here take new shape and extra meaning.

This tour is an opportunity to experience the reinvention of an iconic song selection - from Red Rain to San Jacinto, Digging in the Dirt to Don't Give Up - before the album release of 'New Blood' later this year.

Dates are:

Fri 06/10/11         Berkeley, CA     University Of California

Sat 06/11/11         Santa Barbara, CA     Santa Barbara Bowl

Member Review: Melissa Etheridge

Etheridge seems to have got her groove back in a big way with the return-to-rock new album, including the anthemic title track which kicked off the two-hour-and-45 minutes show, which in turn propelled her live show to new heights.

"Are you ready - ready to be fearless?" said the grinning 49-year-old singer-songwriter-guitarist as she took the stage backed by a three piece band.

The combination of her strong raspy voice, passionate guitar playing and emotional songs went along way to whipping the crowd into a frenzy as many gathered at the front of the stage while the rest in their seats rose to their feet early and often.

And when Etheridge, a breast cancer survivor, told the audience she had been cancer free for six years, as way of introducing I Run To Life, they went nuts.

Aside from appealing new songs like Fearless Love, The Wanting Of You, Nervous and the beautiful show ending lullaby-like ballad, Gently We Row, Etheridge also infused older tunes with newfound energy like The Different, Silent Legacy, and Bring Me Some Water and her own harmonica playing on Royal Station.

She joked that she was always nervous about playing the harmonica in front of men in the audience adding: "It takes a man's man to come to a Melissa Etheridge concert!"

Etheridge's also got a lot of swagger for a lady as she often teased the crowd with her flirty wordplay and effortlessly seductive nature.

The sisterly chemistry between her and Serena Ryder was undeniable as they sang their new duet, Broken Heart Sun (in a repeat of the song's debut at the Genie Awards in Ottawa on Thursday night), and Etheridge's own Come By My Window and I'm The Only One (with Ryder having to have lyric cards in her hands for the last two).

Etheridge eventually engaged Ryder in a "sing-off" during I'm The Only One.

"She's my rock spawn" Etheridge spoke with me of Ryder afterwards. She spent about 15 minutes with me, which was 14 more than I had hoped for.

Her set ending, marathon version of Like The Way I Do brought the house down as Etheridge played her acoustic guitar so hard that she broke a string mid-way through.

Climb on the Caravan with DMB

“Caravan” is the name given to four multi-day festivals where the Dave Matthews Band will perform complete sets each evening, making the events the only place you can see DMB in the U.S. this year.

The first Caravan takes place at Bader Field in Atlantic City June 24-26. In addition to DMB, the weekend in New Jersey will feature a festival-size lineup including David Gray, Ray Lamontagne, The Flaming Lips, O.A.R., Damian Marley, Bassnectar, Dr. Dog, Amos Lee, Thievery Corporation, Michael Franti, Warren Haynes Band, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Guster, Lotus, Rebelution and Bobby Long. Daily lineups have yet to be announced.

DMB passes always go oh-so quickly. Sign up at BackstagePassDirect and ask for yours today.

Paul Simon '11 Tour

To celebrate the release of his first new record in five years, legendary artist Paul Simon has announced a very special North American tour beginning Friday, April 15th in Seattle, Washington. The set list will draw from his iconic career, including several songs that haven't been performed live in many years. Also included will be songs from So Beautiful or So What, his brand new album set for release by Hear Music/Concord Music Group on Tuesday, April 12, 2011. Before hitting the road, Simon will appear two consecutive nights, April 6th and 7th on NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Produced by Phil Ramone and Paul Simon, with liner notes written by Elvis Costello, So Beautiful or So What is one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year. Rolling Stone magazine recently declared it, "His best since Graceland," and National Public Radio affirmed, "...his new music balances great poetry and pop. Paul Simon is a national treasure." In their current issue, Filter Magazine calls the new album, "...a new masterpiece from the Picasso of music."

Joining Paul for this tour is a stellar band of musicians including Cameroonian guitarist Vincent Nguini, drummer Jim Oblon, pianist Mick Rossi, saxophonist/keyboardist Andrew Snitzer, bassist Bakithi Kumalo, guitarist Mark Stewart, master percussionist Jamey Haddad and multi-instrumentalist Tony Cedras.

The Worst Kept Secret

The long-rumored Mötley Crüe tour with Poison and the New York Dolls becomes reality as the band announces dates, cities and onsales.

The tour is probably the worst-kept concert secret of the still young year. Although Poison’s Bret Michaels mentioned it earlier this year during one of his solo gigs, Crüe reps refused to comment on the outing.
